goAbout the Program
This Literacy and Curriculum Program is intended for certified, practicing elementary classroom teachers who have a strong interest in teaching literacy in grades K-6. This program provides an in-depth view of reading and writing research, theories, and the application of theory to classroom teaching. In addition, an emphasis is placed on curriculum design in an effort to prepare elementary teachers for leadership roles in their respective schools and districts.

Deadlines to apply for admission to graduate studies:

  • Fall admission June 1 st
  • Spring admission October 15 th
  • Summer admission March 1 st

goAdmission Requirements

  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited university and teacher certification in an appropriate area.
  • At least a 2.5 grade point average for the four-year undergraduate degree, and for the last two years of the undergraduate degree,
    -PLUS-
  • A grade point average of 3.0 or greater for the last two years of the undergraduate degree,
    -OR-
  • A score of 1000 or greater on the combined verbal and quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE),
    -OR-
  • A previous graduate degree from a regionally accredited university.

goFinancial Aid / Scholarships Information
**Currently, Pinellas County School District pays the tuition for five of the emphasis courses in this program for its practicing K-5 teachers of Mathematics or Science. This practice is dependent upon annual funding.
